Pourisse School

Country of Origin: Eisen

Description: Upon retirement, the Montaigne diplomat Girard Rouseaux du Pourisse moved to Eisen, who's culture he proclaimed "delightfully militaristic". Upon mastering Eisenfaust, Pourisse opened a school which he toted to be a refined version of the style. After several years, he significantly altered his school's principles ("wiping off the mud", he called it) to become what has been recently accepted by the Swordsman guild as a legitimate form.

Taking advantage of both the speed of the epee and the might of the panzerhand, Pourisse's students are strangely balanced in abilities. Capable of efficient defense, accurate assault, and a rough sort of flair, these eccentric swordsmen are not to be underestimated.

Educated only in Eisenfaust, Pourisse is unfamiliar with the "lines of defense" concept commonly taught to fencing students. This leaves consistent but small holes in the defense strategy he teaches, allowing a patient and observant duelist to take advantage of them.

Basic Curriculum: Fencing, Panzerhand

Swordsman Knacks: Bind (Panzerhand), Disarm (Panzerhand), Pommel Strike (Fencing), Exploit Weakness (Pourisse)

Apprentice: Learning the Pourisse style negates the off-hand penalty for using a panzerhand. Also, whenever a successful Parry (Fencing) attack is made, the swordsman gains an unkept die on the next Attack (Panzerhand) made this turn, as the Pourisse student pivots as he disengages in order to backhand his opponent.

Journeyman: Pourisse's signature move, le barrage, is a flurry of parries and panzerhand deflections. By spending a Drama Die, the journeyman may make an Active Defense using the sum of Parry (Fencing) and Parry (Panzerhand) as their Parry knack.

Master: A master is capable of a calculated assault of blood and steel known as Wading the Reeds. By spending a Drama Die, the swordsman can hurl himself panzerhand-first at his opponent, in order to drive his epee straight through. The attack allows for an Attack (Panzerhand) and an Attack (Fencing), both in one action, and at +1 unkept die of damage. If the Attack (Panzerhand) hits [before the Attack (Fencing)], the target is prone. Regardless of either attack striking, the Pourisse master is prone.
